To make sure Kika's Charm appeals to the male audience as well as female, I wanted to dedicate the first Monday of each month to a post that focuses on male fashion. Hope you enjoy it! #malefashion #malemonday #menswear
The surprising new trend in suits
I'd imagine it must be quite difficult for menswear designers to come up with something new regarding men suits, I mean, other than single or double breasted, suits have looked pretty much the same over the past 10 years at least. But one trend that seems to be re-appearing on designer catwalks is how suits are being worn and styled. And the trend seems to be - wearing your suit with absolutely nothing underneath it. Yes, you read that right. As seen at the Spring/Summer'19 shows in Paris, Belgian designer Dries Van Noten (I've written more about him in one of my earlier posts) sent out his models in smartly cut two-piece suits, with bare chests and chunky footwear.
Then we've seen Kim Jones, in his first collection for Dior menswear approaching a very similar look, this time with double-breasted suits worn with nothing beneath them. Followed by Hermès menswear and they chic suits worn with nothing but a pair of sandals. Somehow these models managed to look chic and put together although the idea of no shirt would suggest otherwise. This new look certainly does have a very summery feel. It's elegant, yet understated.
The many practicalities of a man bag
We've seen them everywhere recently, they are part of not just the usual business attire in the city, but also in streetwear, men are certainly embracing the power of carrying a bag and they sure carry it with style. Main advantage clearly being that it holds your valuables, so you don't have to just stuff them into the pockets of your jeans (we all know that guy). But it also adds to the outfit. We're not just talking business style laptop bags, but I've seen more and more smaller crossbody style bags, which leave you hands free to go about your day. My current favourite is the classically re-imagined Dior saddle bag.
I'm very excited about this new possibility of the Male Monday Fashion Series, so hope it takes off with a bang! If you liked the first one, make sure you put your email down to subscribe and let me know in the comments below.
