Today is a very sad day for fashion, the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld, is gone. As a creative director of Chanel and Fendi, he kept on directing his team about the Fendi autumn/winter 2019 collection, which is due to be shown at Milan Fashion Week this Thursday, until the very end. #ripkarllagerfeld #karllagerfeld #chanel #lagerfeld #fendi
Honor, joy and inspiration
First of all, let me say, how fortunate we all were to be alive at the same time as Karl, to experience his creative talent, indulge in the beauty of his couture fashion creations and to be in the presence of his designs was a spectacular creative experience. I'm sure even those not focused much on fashion can appreciate the details of a couture gown or the delicate stitching of a Chanel handbag.
Second of all, he led a great life doing what he loved the most, which is everything any of us could ever hope for. Which motivates me to give my absolute everything every single second of every day! Do a bit more of what you love every day, because your passion will shine through and the best thing about it is, you will get better at it every single day you work hard and at the end your legacy will stay, even after you're gone. Which is exactly what Karl did, leaving us all eternally inspired and focused on the beauty of fashion, on the hard work of "les petites mains" in the couture houses, or with his elaborate designs of his fashion shows. There were no limits in him shining a positive light on us at a time when there is too much sadness and negativity in the world.
The Karl Lagerfeld legacy
As I'm sure he'd like us to celebrate his life rather than mourn it, I'd like to concentrate on the amazing legacy he left behind. After all, 64 years in the fashion business speak for themselves. Or maybe it's best to use the words of people, who actually met him in person:
"Karl was a genius and always so kind and generous to me both personally and professionally." Victoria Beckham
“We owe him a great deal: his taste and talent were the most exceptional I have ever known. I will always remember his immense imagination, his ability to conceive new trends for every season, his inexhaustible energy, the virtuosity of his drawings, his carefully guarded independence, his encyclopedic culture, and his unique wit and eloquence." Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH
“Fashion show after fashion show, collection after collection, Karl Lagerfeld left his mark on the legend of Gabrielle Chanel and the history of the House of Chanel. He steadfastly promoted the talent and expertise of Chanel’s ateliers and Métiers d’Art, allowing this exceptional know-how to shine throughout the world. The greatest tribute we can pay today is to continue to follow the path he traced by – to quote Karl – ‘continuing to embrace the present and invent the future’.” Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion at Chanel
The fashion house Chanel also announced that Lagerfeld's longtime collaborator and Director of Chanel's Creation Fashion Studio, Virginie Viard, would continue with the creative work of the autumn/winter 2019 collection which will be shown at Paris Fashion Week Tuesday, March 5.
